16 strikeouts by pitchers highlight 5-1 non-league win

Box Score

BELLINGHAM — The Bellingham Bells earned a 5-1 win over the Northwest Star Nighthawks on Tuesday, July 7 at Joe Martin Field. Bellingham’s six pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in the non-league victory as the Bells kicked off a nine-game home stand with a win.

Kole Laubach got the start and for three innings his only blemish was a solo home run in the second inning that gave the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead. He allowed four hits and only walked one batter while striking out three.

Cole Anderson pitched the fourth and fifth innings and surrendered just one hit while striking out four. The Bells got Anderson his second win of the summer with a three-run fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Aspen Alexander doubled down the third base line to score the tying and go-ahead runs. He later scored on a wild pitch.

Kaden Nicholls kept the Bells scoreless streak rolling on the mound by posting a zero in the sixth. He struck out one batter and worked around two hits allowed. Jordan Chancellor was electric in the seventh and struck out the side on three swinging strikeouts.

That energy carried over into the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bells scored two more runs to extend their lead to 5-1. Nate Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk and Tyler Peshke had a sacrifice fly to drive in the inning’s two runs.

Ben McKinnon made his debut in the eighth inning and the now three-time Bellingham Bell posted two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 inning. Caleb Sebek made his debut in the ninth and worked around two baserunners with the help of three strikeouts to cap off the victory.

Alexander led the Bells going 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. He was the only Bell with multiple hits as Bellingham tallied seven hits as a team and drew five walks. The Bells face the Everett Merchants in a non-league game tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Secure tickets to the next eight home games at bellstickets.com.
