Shutout earns series win for Bellingham

Box Score

KAMLOOPS — The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Kamloops NorthPaws with an 8-0 victory on Sunday, July 19 at Norbrock Stadium. Three pitchers combined to throw the shutout and held the NorthPaws to seven hits and two walks on offense.

Robby Zimmerman got the start and extended his scoreless-innings streak to 16-2/3 innings with a four-inning start today. Zimmerman only needed the help of two strikeouts to get through his start and allowed just three hits and a walk.

The Bells scored two runs in the second inning on RBI hits from Bo Shinkle and Bryce Johnson. Matt Churchill had a run-scoring knock in the third to add to the lead and Tyler Peshke scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Nic Peterson followed Zimmerman on the hill with four innings of work himself. The back-to-back lefty pitchers were dominant. Peterson struck out four Kamloops batters while only allowing three hits and one walk. Peterson earned his first win of the season too.

Shinkle continued to swing a hot stick with another RBI knock in the fifth. Peshke doubled in the seventh to drive home two more runs and Rominic Quiban scored Peshke later in the inning on a base hit. Kaden Nicholls allowed one hit in the ninth inning and closed the shutout victory with the help of two strikeouts.

Churchill recorded four hits in the win and scored twice while sending in one run. Shinkle and Peshke both had two knocks, two runs and two RBI. Quiban and Rashad Hayes both recorded a pair of hits to aid in Bellingham’s series win over the NorthPaws.

At 24-15, the Bells now have a quick turnaround as they’ll host the Kelowna Falcons on a rare Monday game beginning at 6:35 p.m. at Joe Martin Field. The two teams are tied for second place in the West Coast League’s North Division and the Falcons lead the division in the second half race for the North’s second playoff berth.
