BELLINGHAM — A late comeback by the Bellingham Bells led to a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Joe Martin Field. A three-run sixth inning helped lift the Bells over the Riverhawks for their first win against Edmonton this summer.

Bellingham’s starter Caleb Sebek was able to work around traffic in the first two innings, but a three-run home run by Mitchell Middlemiss in the third inning tagged Sebek for his first home run of the season. 

The Bells did respond with one run in the bottom of the third as Noah Cassie hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in one run. Geoffrey McArthur entered in the fourth and went on to pitch the next four innings without allowing a run.

McArthur struck out four batters and earned his first win of the season in his home debut. Bellingham got in front during the sixth inning after three batters recorded hits to begin the inning and Edmonton’s starter exited. 

The Riverhawks first relief pitcher allowed back-to-back walks to allow a run to score. Edmonton had to make another pitching change as the bases were loaded with no outs still and the newest reliever allowed a run to score on a wild pitch.

It was 4-3 following the sixth and McArthur got the game into the eighth inning where Ben McKinnon took over in relief. The flame-throwing pitcher struck out the side in the eighth with three swinging strikeouts. McKinnon did allow a walk in the ninth, but secured his third save with a game-ending strikeouts.

Cassie led the Bells with two RBI on one hit and he scored a run. Bo Shinkle recorded a pair of hits and scored a run. KG Hattori went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. The Bells had eight hits in the win to even the three-game series against Edmonton.

Bellingham has its playoff spot secured and can eliminate the Riverhawks from the playoffs with a victory in tomorrow’s game that starts at 6:35 p.m. The Bells will host their playoff game on Aug. 8 and tickets are on sale at bellstickets.com.
