Bells suffer tough loss to Riverhawks
The Bellingham Bells played their second game of the series against the Edmonton Riverhawks tonight and lost 5-4. The Bells put their season record at 16-4 while the Riverhawks are currently 6-17. One of the interesting things about baseball, like other sports, is that every game will be different. In baseball there is typically a different starting pitcher every night, and for some teams there are different starting lineups. So the saying goes, “Any given team, at any given time” meaning that anyone can win/lose depending on the mindset and the quality of playing.
Unfortunately the Bells had a difficult night on the field, having four errors and letting in five runs. Jack Erdman opened the game for the Bells on the mound, pitching for 3.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, and two earned runs. However, within those innings Erdman had six strikeouts. Gianluca Shinn, Tomas Urbina, and Carter Parcher came in as relief for Erdman. Shinn pitched well tonight, having three strikeouts in two innings.
Nick Kirkpatrick batted last for the Bells, but showed that last doesn’t mean least. Kirkpatrick had two walks and one hit in four plate appearances. Getting aboard 3 out of 4 times. The Bells had five hits tonight and three RBI’s with Coleman Schmidt knocking in two runs and Daryl Ruiz bringing home the other run.
The Bellingham Bells play the Edmonton Riverhawks, away, one more time tomorrow evening at 7:05 P.M. for their final game of the series. Go Bells!
