In game one of a three-game series against the Wenatchee AppleSox, the Bellingham Bells beat the AppleSox 6-1 at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium in Wenatchee, Wash.

It was an all-around night for the Bellingham Bells who put up six runs on six hits with help thanks to four errors from the AppleSox defense. This game saw six Bells pitchers take the mound for the second game in a row.

The pitching started with Josh Flaugher in his second road start of the season. Flaugher threw four innings with only one hit allowed and three walks to three strikeouts. 

The Bells took the lead early in the second inning when Nate Kirkpatrick was sent home on a shallow pop fly from Jason Shedlock. A throwing error by former Bellingham Bell Max Hartman allowed Kirkpatrick to tag up and score and give the Bells a 1-0 lead.

Wenatchee tied the game in the fifth inning when Marques Brown walked Hunter Friedberg who was eventually sent home on a groundout by Hartman for the AppleSox.

The tie would break with the Bells one run in the top of the seventh. Conner Smith drove a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Kaikea Harrison who led off the inning with a single. With the Bells taking a 2-1 lead that they would not surrender, Callum Young got the win for pitching the sixth inning. 

Four runs in the final two innings would close the door on Wenatchee in game one. A Jacob Mejia double allowed Anthony Kodama to go first to third in the eighth. A Harrison double scored Mejia for one more run in that frame. 

In the ninth, an error by Antonio Gianni let two runs score for the Bells on a ball that was thrown out of play with the AppleSox trying to turn a double play. With the score of 6-1, Ryan Heppner got the last three outs for the Bells to secure the victory.

The Bells were led by Kirkpatrick who went 2 for 4 with a run furthering his hot start as he leads the Bells with 15 hits. Harrison went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run for his first multi-hit game in a Bells uniform. Reliever Nick Lewis threw a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts. Smith, Mejia, and Gabe Henderson all earned a single RBI

With the 6-1 victory the Bellingham Bells improved to 6-4 on the season and the Wenatchee AppleSox lost their first home game of the year to fall to 7-3. Game two is tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. and you can watch the Bells live on the WCL’s live streaming site.
