‘Moore Orr less’ dominant in shutout victory
Ryan Orr made the most of his first start of the season. Going four scoreless innings and allowing zero walks with six strikeouts. He had firm control of his off-speed pitches, setting the tone for his pitching staff for the rest of the night.
Aggressive baserunning has been the theme of this series thus far. Riley Parker (6-15 in his last 4 games) was a constant threat on the basepaths throughout the night but made his presence felt in the 4th inning after beginning the inning with a single.
Leaving on the first move against the Southpaw pitcher for the NightOwls, Riley Parker forced an errant throw by the lefty, allowing him to advance to 2nd base. Andrew Valdez would go on to advance Parker and put the Bells in a position to take the lead. With runners for the Bells on 2nd and 3rd, the left-handed pitcher decided to work out of the wind-up, allowing Parker to take advantage with his speed and steal home to take a 1-0 lead on the Owls.
Ty Saunders took the mound for the 5th and 6th innings. Stranding three baserunners and finishing with two strikeouts.
The remaining three innings would be left for Trevor Moore to record the long save, and while receiving an insurance run in the 8th inning (Daryl Ruiz, RBI single), Moore cruised through one full rotation of their lineup. Allowing only one baserunner and finishing with two strikeouts.
The Bells are winners of their last three games and are looking to finish the home series strong with a season sweep of the Nanaimo NightOwls in tomorrow’s matinee action.
First pitch is 1:05 p.m. at Joe Martin Field. Be sure to get your tickets at bellstickets.com.
