Bells Topple Lefties in Series Opener
The Bells defeated the Port Angeles Lefties in game one of the series by a final score of 9-3. Bellingham committed four errors, but out-hit the Lefties 11-4.
Port Angeles got working early against starter Brody Jessee (3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K). They loaded the bases in the 1st and 2nd inning, but Jessee limited the damage, allowing just one run in each. They scored again in the 3rd on an RBI groundout to push the lead to 3-0.
The Bells got rolling in the bottom of the 3rd to break into the scoring column. Emilio Corona led off with a double, and Daniel Gernon singled to bring him home. Yugo Hamakawa singled to advance Gernon to third, and Charlie Saum scored him on an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-2.
Bellingham took the lead in the bottom of the 4th for good off the bat of Emilio Corona. Ty Saunders and Malakhi Knight each walked to lead off the inning, and Corona brought them home on a 3-run HR to left field.
Corona had an outstanding day at the plate, going 4-4 with 3 2B, 4 RBI and the home run. He earned Player of the Game honors for his efforts. Daniel Gernon batted leadoff and also put together a strong effort, going 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Grayson Sterling joined the power party in the 5th, knocking in a leadoff home run to stretch the lead to 6-3. Charlie Saum scored Corona again in the 6th via a sac fly, and Corona scored Ty Saunders in the 7th on an RBI double. Cole Hinkelman doubled and scored an unearned run in the 8th to make the score 9-3.
Carter Parcher (3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K) dominated the middle innings, and Greg Blackman (2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) entered the game with runners on in the 7th to earn an 8-out save.

The Bellingham Bells took the final game of their six-game home stand with a 3-0 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks Thursday, July 10 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Three pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts while allowing three hits and walks to the Riverhawks.
