Bells Roundup – Feb. 26

Welcome to a weekly series we are beginning here at The Bellingham Bells. Every week we will highlight what our current and alumni Bells are up to. From the MLB to JUCO ball, we will cover it all so that YOU stay in the loop. Let’s catch you up from what you’ve missed.

A ๐Ÿ’ฃ and a Sports Center Top 10 Play for Nate Kirkpatrick

Bells third baseman and WCL All-Star Nate Kirkpatrick burst onto the NCAA Division I scene with Virginia Commonwealth University with his two-run home run against Charleston. He then followed that up with a Sports Center Top 10 play the next week flashing his glove on the hot corner.

Mejia wins FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week

Former Bells first baseman Jacob Mejia came out swinging for Cal St. San Bernardino. The power-hitting lefty hit .600 with two home runs as the Coyotes swept a three-game series vs Central Washington. Last season’s Bell of the Year was aptly awarded his second career CCAA Player of the Week.

Dean West’s 1st career ๐Ÿ’ฃ and a ๐Ÿ”ฅ start

The Bells 2023 center fielder Dean West is back with UCLA as a sophomore and he is breaking out in 2025. In a Feb. 16 game against Cal Poly, West went yard as he racked up three hits and three RBI in a stellar performance.

Former Bell Bruins make action

UCLA is a school that has seen many Bellingham Bells players come from. Recently former Bells shortstop Roman Martin and outfielder Dean West got to work against Cal Poly. Martin drove in West for the Bruins to go ahead of the Broncos on College Baseball’s Opening Day, Feb. 14.

Will Anderson wins CCC pitcher of the week

Bellingham Bells left-handed pitcher Will Anderson won the Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24 after he threw 6.2 innings in a win over Eastern Oregon for the University of British Columbia. The Thunderbird lefty allowed only one run while striking out 12 batters and walking zero.

Shenton makes Mariners Spring Training debut

Spring Training officially began on Feb. 21 and weโ€™ve seen some former Bells in action both on and off the field. The Bells very own Austin Shenton, who now is back in the Seattle Mariners organization, got the start when the Mโ€™s faced off against the San Diego Padres

Kyle Stowers wears the ๐ŸŽ™๏ธfor Miami

Former Bellingham Bells outfielder Kyle Stowers of the Miami Marlins went micโ€™d up during a Marlins practice. Watch the video here.

McLain brothers face off

The Bellingham Bells and the McLain family have a history together. Matt McLain of the Cincinnati Reds played for the Bells in 2018 and the youngest McLain brother Nick of the Chicago White Sox played for the Bells in 2021. Although Sean McLain never was a Bell, it was a special moment for Matt and Sean to face off against each other when the Reds took on the Dodgers on Feb. 24.
