The Bellingham Bells beat the Kelowna Falcons, 4-3, Saturday night at Elks stadium to clinch a series win.

The Bells received just enough run support to aid a stellar outing from starter Matt Henckel to secure the victory.

They plated their first run in the second inning when Troy Viola led off with a double and was scored by a Cole Hinkelman double to go ahead 1-0.

Henckel then held the Falcons scoreless until the Bells added two more runs in the fourth. Charlie Updegrave launched a sacrifice-fly to score Hinkelman for a 2-0 lead, and then Collin Burns singled in Ethan Smith to make it 3-0.

The Falcons scored for the first time in the fifth when Adam Sarafinchan singled in Colten Schaper-Kotter, making it 3-1.

Henckel finished the fifth, which was his final inning. He gave up one run on three hits, while walking two and striking out a season-high seven.

Burns put the Bells on the board again in the sixth, singling in Smith again to extend the lead to 4-1.

That’s how things remained until the bottom of the ninth when the Falcons loaded the bases against Bells reliever Jimmy Chatfield. He walked in two runs, but held on to secure a 4-3 win.

The teams will be back in action for the season finale tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. at Elks Stadium.
