Box Score | Bellingham Bells RosterWCL Standings

The Bellingham Bells beat the Marion Berries 4-3 Friday, June 20 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. The Bells capitalized on a sixth inning error to take game one of three against Salem’s new West Coast League baseball team.

The cross-divisional series continues tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. with Colt Peterson scheduled to start for the Bells and Steven Verespey set to go for the Berries.

Trevor Moore got the start and gave up the first run of the game in the second inning after allowing a hit-by-pitch and a single that allowed the hit batter to score on an RBI groundout.

Bellingham matched the one run second with a run on a bases-loaded walk from Alex Fernandes. Marion had another RBI groundout that gave the Berries a 2-1 lead.

Moore finished the top of the fifth inning scoreless and left his start with two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five. In the bottom of the fifth the Bells tied the game on an RBI groundout from Gavin Long.

Will Franklin came out of the bullpen for the sixth inning. The offense granted him the lead after two walks and a double steal put two in scoring position for Andrew Lamb. Lamb hit a ground ball to the right side that was gathered by Marion first baseman Jake Dodge, who threw the ball over the covering pitchers head for an error that allowed two to score.

Franklin pitched a scoreless seventh but allowed one run in the eighth after gaining the first two outs in the inning and Chase Halvorson was called out of the bullpen to finish the inning. He stranded two runners on base and in the ninth picked up his second save of the season with two strikeouts to finish the win.

The Bells were led by Rob Jacobsen (2-for-4) as the second baseman continued his hot start to his Bellingham career. He is hitting .600 in the four games he’s played and today scored one run. Fernandes was 1-for-3 and walked twice with a steal, run and an RBI. Nate Kirkpatrick picked up his team-leading sixth double as part of a 1-for-2 performance that included two walks and a run.

Bellingham’s offense cooled off at home after catching fire during the six-game road trip, but tonight they gained six hits and drew nine walks in the win. The team also stole seven bases in an aggressive base running night that saw 11 batters be left on base.

Tomorrow the Bells aim for their seventh-straight series win to begin 2025 with a 6:35 p.m. matchup against the Berries.
