Aguayo homers in 9-1 win

Box Score | Bellingham Bells Roster | WCL Standings

The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Kamloops NorthPaws with their 9-1 win Saturday, June 28 at Norbrock Stadium in Kamloops, British Columbia. The Bells (17-9) are still leading the North Division by half a game, but the Wenatchee AppleSox are hot on their tails with four games to catch up.

Before Colt Peterson took the mound for his start, Bellingham tallied two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI from Nico Azpilcueta and Noah Meffert, who was playing in his second game as a Bell.

Bobby Pierce Jr. stayed hot and knocked in two runs on a single in the fourth. Aiden Aguayo then blasted his first home run of the season to scored him and Pierce Jr. to put Bellingham ahead 6-0.

Peterson surrendered the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth and finished four innings with five strikeouts to two walks and three hits allowed. Josh Flaugher entered for the fifth inning and held Kamloops scoreless for two innings.

In the top of the seventh, the Bells took advantage of an error to load the bases and scored a run on a hit-by-pitch. Kirkpatrick hit a sacrifice fly and it was 8-1. Ivan Rodriguez came out of the bullpen for two scoreless innings and only allowed one hit while striking out two.

In the ninth, Meffert doubled and the Bells went up 9-1, which was an easy lead to hold for Will Franklin in the ninth. The Bells only had seven hits as a team but they walked seven times and only left six runners on base.

The pitching staff gave up nine hits but limited their walks to three while striking out 10 NorthPaws as a staff. Meffert led the bells going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored. Rob Jacobsen extended his hitting streak to 11 games going 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Aguayo was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.

The Bells wrap up their series against Kamloops today at 12:05 p.m. Bellingham is barely ahead of Wenatchee in the North Division Standings so the AppleSox need some losses to Victoria or Kamloops over the next four games to stay on top of the North.
