The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Port Angeles Lefties with a 7-0 shutout win Sunday, July 6 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Seven pitchers combined to only allowed two hits to the Lefties and struck out seven in the dominant win.

Offense came early for the third-straight game as Bellingham jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first on Blake Balsz’s RBI groundout.

Colt Peterson, who got the start in the bullpen game, finished two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Johnny Montgomery pitched a scoreless third and only allowed one walk.

Caleb Cassie pitched the seventh inning, picking up one strikeout and keeping a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, the Bells scored two on a two-RBI single by Degroot.

Up 6-0, Lathan Haywood made his home debut on the mound and in his return to Bellingham he pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a strikeout. If the lead wasn’t large enough already, Andrew Lamb made sure the Bells had plenty of run cushion with an RBI double.

Haywood finished the ninth allowing just the second hit of the game to the Lefties. It capped off a nine-inning shutout for a seven-man pitching staff and earned the series win over Port Angeles.

The Bells totaled seven hits as a team, but took advantage of nine walks to score their seven runs. Kirkpatrick was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Degroot went 1-for-2 and brought in two runs with two steals and a run scored. Sell went 1-for-4 in the leadoff spot with a double and had an RBI as well as a steal and a run scored.
