Bullpen dominates Port Angeles to win series

The Bellingham Bells earned a series win over the Port Angeles Lefties with a 7-0 shutout win Sunday, July 6 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Seven pitchers combined to only allowed two hits to the Lefties and struck out seven in the dominant win.
Offense came early for the third-straight game as Bellingham jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first on Blake Balsz’s RBI groundout.
Colt Peterson, who got the start in the bullpen game, finished two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Johnny Montgomery pitched a scoreless third and only allowed one walk.
Nate Kirkpatrick picked up a two-out two-RBI double to extend the Bells lead to 3-0 after the Lefties committed an error that would’ve ended the inning before Kirkpatrick’s at-bat.
Hayden George pitched a 1-2-3 third and Camden Gillespie made his pitching debut with a scoreless fifth that earned him the win. Gillespie had made 16 appearances as a position player this season, but pitched for the first time in his collegiate career and picked up a strikeout while walking two.
Jared Hardie pitched a scoreless sixth despite two walks due to the aid of a double play. Brock Sell added to the lead with an RBI double that scored Logan Degroot, who had walked and stole second to get in scoring position.
Caleb Cassie pitched the seventh inning, picking up one strikeout and keeping a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, the Bells scored two on a two-RBI single by Degroot.
Up 6-0, Lathan Haywood made his home debut on the mound and in his return to Bellingham he pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a strikeout. If the lead wasn’t large enough already, Andrew Lamb made sure the Bells had plenty of run cushion with an RBI double.
Haywood finished the ninth allowing just the second hit of the game to the Lefties. It capped off a nine-inning shutout for a seven-man pitching staff and earned the series win over Port Angeles.
The Bells totaled seven hits as a team, but took advantage of nine walks to score their seven runs. Kirkpatrick was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Degroot went 1-for-2 and brought in two runs with two steals and a run scored. Sell went 1-for-4 in the leadoff spot with a double and had an RBI as well as a steal and a run scored. Lamb was 1-for-3 and hit his seventh double for an RBI.
Bellingham (21-12) are first in the North Division and will play a three-game series against the Edmonton Riverhawks Tuesday–Thursday, July 8–10 at Joe Martin Field. All three games start at 6:35 p.m.

Bells win North Division to advance to WCL Championship
The Bellingham Bells are moving on in the West Coast League Playoffs after a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks in the North Division Championship Game Tuesday, Aug 12 at RE/MAX Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Bells will now face the Portland Pickles in the WCL title game Thursday to try and win Bellingham's first championship since 2014.
Quiban sends Bellingham to North Division Championship
The Bellingham Bells are moving on in the West Coast League Playoffs after a 4-3 walk-off win over the Wenatchee AppleSox Sunday, August 10 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Rominic Quiban delivered the walk-off hit leading to a play at the plate where Blake Balsz slid around a tag to keep Bellingham's season alive.
AppleSox force Game 3 in 13 innings
The Bellingham Bells lost Game 2 of the North Divisional Series 7-6 versus the Wenatchee AppleSox in 13 innings at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. The Bells and AppleSox now play a win-or-go-home Game 3 tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. for a trip to the North Divisional Championship Game.

The AppleSox never led in the game and Bellingham is one win away from advancing to the North Divisional Championship Game.
