A dominant win to close the home stand

The Bellingham Bells took the final game of their six-game home stand with a 3-0 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks Thursday, July 10 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Three pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts while allowing three hits and walks to the Riverhawks.
Cal Young made his sixth start of the season and faced an early bases-loaded jam in the first. Young struck out his first batter of the game and forced a flyout to end the inning scoreless. Young settled in with a scoreless second and he struck out the side in both the third and fourth innings.
The Bells scored two runs in the third inning after Logan Degroot walked and Aiden Aguayo smoked a double off the top of the wall to put two in scoring position. Brock Sell and Rob Jacobsen both hit into groundouts that gave the Bells a 2-0 lead.
Ty Van Dyke took over on the mound for the fifth inning and pitched four dominant innings. The Riverhawks committed 15-straight outs between the second and seventh innings before gaining their third hit of the game. Van Dyke finished four relief innings with four strikeouts while earning his second win of the season.
After Nate Kirkpatrick had walked, Nico Azpilcueta hit into an error and Logan Degoot hit an infield pop up that Edmonton failed to catch that allowed Kirkpatrick to score and extend the Bells to a 3-0 lead.
Colt Peterson entered the ninth and earned his second save of the season with the help of one strikeout. The Bells finished their third shutout of the season and finished their six-game home stand 3-3.
On offense the Bells had seven hits with Jacobsen earning an RBI in a 1-for-4 night at the plate. Aguayo went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Degroot was 1-for-3 earning an RBI with a run and two steals.
The Bells (22-14) are now on the road for a three-game series versus the Kamloops NorthPaws. After the series, five Bellingham Bells will compete in the West Coast League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16 at Joe Martin Field.
