The Bellingham Bells earned a series win with a 4-2 comeback win Sunday, July 20 at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham, Wash. Blake Balsz drove in two go-ahead runs in a three-run eighth for the Bells to steal their 27th win of the season.

Victoria gained the first lead of the game with a run off Bellingham’s starter Carter Herrera in the second inning. After Brock Sell’s double had moved Rominic Quiban to third base, Rob Jacobsen knocked in the Bells first run with an RBI single to center field.

The HarbourCats tagged Herrera for another run in the fourth and Herrera finished his five-inning start with six hits and two runs allowed, which were his first two earned runs allowed of the season. The right-handed pitcher also struck out three batters while not walking one.

After Mack Edwards and Caleb Cassie combined for three scoreless innings, the Bells began the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff triple from Sell. Andrew Lamb brought Sell home to tie the game, 2-2, and Victoria made a pitching change.

Nate Kirkpatrick greeted the new bullpen arm with a single to put runners on first and second with one out. Blake Balsz hit a line drive over the first baseman for a double down the line that scored two runners and gave the Bells a 4-2 lead.

Devyn Hernandez made a rare relief appearance in the ninth and picked up the save after allowing one hit and striking out the final batter of the game.

Sell and Balsz both had two-hit days at the plate with Sell knocking a double and triple and Balsz delivering two RBIs. Jacobsen was 1-for-4 with an RBI while Kirkpatrick, Nico Azpilcueta and Noah Figuered all picked up singles.

The Bells will travel on the road to play Port Angeles Tuesday–Thursday before returning to Joe Martin Field for a six-game, six-day home stand that begins with three non-league games next weekend.
