Bells fall to Black Bears in game 1 of the series

It was a hard night at Joe Martin Field, the Bellingham Bells put up a good fight against the Cowlitz Black Bears in the first game of the series but it wasn’t enough to take the win. The Bells dropped to the Black Bears 4-3.

Both teams had a strong offense tonight, each team racking up 10 hits, making this game based solely on defense. The Black Bears played tight defense with no errors and let up one three earned runs. Carter Gaston for the Black Bears went four inning and had solid relief coming in behind him by a joint effort of three different pitchers giving up no runs to finish off the game.

The Bellingham Bells very own Garner Christensen #5 2-for-4 with one RBI, contributing to the three that the Bells managed to put up. Unfortunately, at the end of the evening there were 7 Bells left on base unable to score. Bellingham’s defense played well up until the last inning when there was an error putting AJ Singer and Chase Eliott into scoring position. With two runners on, the Bells decide to intentionally walk the Black Bear’s clean up hitter, Sam Canton, to force an out at any bag. That unfortunately didn’t work out in the Bells favor since there was a passed ball that allowed Eliott to score, giving the Black Bears the lead in the top of the ninth inning.

The players, coaches, and fans continue to be optimistic about the season since it is still very early and this team is continuing to build off one another and get to know each other more and more. The Bells face the Black Bears again tomorrow night at Joe Martin Field at 6:35 p.m
