The Bellingham Bells began their three-game series in Wenatchee with a 5-1 win over the AppleSox Friday, August 1 at Paul Thomas Field in Wenatchee, Wash. With the win, Bellingham improves to 30-18, which marks their fourth consecutive season above 30 wins and the team’s 10th in it’s West Coast League history.

Wenatchee was limited to just two hits as a team as the Bells pitching showcased their dominance that has given the team the best opponents batting average in the WCL (.220). Bellingham had no trouble getting base knocks and totaled 12 in the win.

Trevor Moore got the start for Bellingham and the right-handed pitcher went five scoreless innings while tallying three strikeouts. Moore allowed the two hits the AppleSox had for the entire game and one of the two allowed walks.

The Bells scored in the very first inning when Gavin Long launched a solo home run. It was his second of the year, but his first against a league opponent.

Moore exited his start up just 1-0 as Lathan Haywood took over for the sixth inning. Haywood struck out one as he faced the minimum in the frame.

Rominic Quiban doubled Bellingham’s lead on an RBI single that scored Kirkpatrick, who had led off the frame with a single. Aiden Aguayo doubled and brought Quiban in and Long secured his second RBI of the game to give Bellingham a 4-0 lead.

Flaugher took the hill in the bottom of the seventh and struck out one batter on his way to a 1-2-3 frame. In the top of the eighth, Rob Jacobsen added to Bellingham’s lead on an RBI single.

Up 5-0, Flaugher finished another scoreless inning and finished two innings with the minimum of six batters faced. Colt Peterson pitched the ninth and did surrender one run on a balk, but Bellingham still won 5-1 to take game one of three versus the AppleSox.

Long led the Bells with a 3-for-4 night that included a home run, two RBIs, and one run scored. Aguayo was 2-f0r-5 with an RBI and a run in the leadoff spot for Bellingham. Noah Meffert also collected multiple hits going 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Bellingham currently sits a half game back of the Edmonton Riverhawks for the lead in the North Division, but Edmonton has played one less game than the Bells. The next five games will decide home field advantage for the second and third rounds of the WCL Playoffs as the Bells already have clinched home field advantage in the opening round.

Tomorrow the Bells and AppleSox face off at 6:35 p.m. as PJ Wendler will face off against Wenatchee’s Mitch Haythorn. The Bells and AppleSox are tied in their season series 2-2 through the first four matchups of the year.
